Smallpox Vaccine

 1. The graph below suggests that immunization starting at birth with the smallpox vaccine may cause a reduction in diabetes risk.  Physicians tended to immunize children early in life during smallpox epidemics and this can explain the low incidence of IDDM in children born in the Netherlands during a European smallpox epidemic of 1962 when immunization was agressive.
