Mice Graph 1

   1. The graph below shows that immunization starting at birth with even three low doses of the killed anthrax vaccine which contains an aluminum adjuvant causes a substantial reduction in diabetes risk. An even higher dose of the killed plague vaccine which lacks the aluminum adjuvant had a smaller effect in preventing diabetes.

2. The graph below shows that immunization starting at birth with additional doses of the killed anthrax vaccine caused an even further reduction in diabetes risk. The addition of the diptheria tetanus (DT) vaccine to the anthrax vaccine (A) caused even a further reduction in diabetes.

3. The graph below shows that immunization starting at birth with with the DTP vaccine caused a further reduction in diabetes risk compared to giving only the DT vaccine with the anthrax vaccine (A)( see above).

Discussion

Immunization starting at birth with low doses of killed vaccines can prevent the development of diabetes in NOD mice. There is an additive effect such that the reduction of diabetes is enhanced by both increasing the number of doses of a single vaccine and the number of different vaccines given.
